What is the SCA mock exam?
The SCA mock exam is a full-length rehearsal of the RCGP Simulated Consultation Assessment: 12 unseen stations with AI patients, sat back to back under exam timing, with no scores shown until the end. It is the closest you can get to exam day on your own, without a study partner or a course.
How does the mock exam work?
- Each station starts with 3 minutes to read the patient notes, then a 12-minute spoken consultation, the same timing as the SCA.
- 2 of the 12 stations are telephone consultations and the rest are face to face. Between them they cover: Patients Under 19; Gender, Reproductive & Sexual Health; Older Adults & End of Life; Mental Health & Addiction; Urgent & Unscheduled Care; Health Disadvantages & Vulnerabilities; Professional Conversations & Dilemmas; Population Health & Prevention.
- You can pause between stations and resume later; progress is saved automatically.
- Each consultation is marked as soon as it ends, but nothing is shown until you finish station 12.
What do you get at the end?
An RCGP-style results report: a mark and grade for every station across data gathering, clinical management and interpersonal skills, an overall result, and an examiner-style summary of what to work on. The report is kept, so you can come back to it as you revise. See how each consultation is marked.
Who is the mock exam for?
GP trainees in the last weeks before the SCA who want to know whether they are ready, and to build the stamina for twelve consultations in a row. Your first sitting is the best measure of readiness while the stations are still unseen, so sit it once you have done enough single-case practice to give it a fair go.
How much does the mock exam cost?
The mock exam is included in the Intensive plan (£95 a month) and the Mastery plan (£150 a month). On the Practice plan (£35 a month) it is a £20 one-off add-on. You can browse the 12 station titles above without an account. Compare the plans.
Mock exam questions
- Can I pause the mock exam?
- Yes. You can leave the page between stations and come back later. Progress is saved automatically, so you resume at the station you had reached.
- Are scores shown during the mock exam?
- No. As in the real SCA, there is no feedback between stations. All the marks and the examiner summary appear together on the results page at the end.
- Can I sit the mock exam more than once?
- Yes. You can restart the full mock from station 1 at any time. Restarts use the same 12 stations, so your first sitting is the best measure of readiness while they are still unseen.
- Does the mock exam allow reasonable adjustments?
- Yes. With reasonable adjustments turned on in your account, each station gives 3 minutes 45 seconds of reading time and a 15-minute consultation, 25% more than standard timing.
